PEARLS OF WISDOM: Quitting before the miracle: a short series about courage and confidence

This is a series of posts for which I lacked a decent Google-searchable keyword title. Searching Google for ideas produced, “PEARLS of WISDOM”, which has such a rich flavor of hubris and chuzpah that I just HAD to use it. It makes me laugh at myself with delight and a bit of wry sarcasm. Enjoy!

Some months ago I was talking to my one of my best friends, who was expressing dismay at my dogged determination to try yet again, to put myself out there and potentially risk my home and security in the process. Impassioned, I exclaimed, “I don’t want to live a safe little life. I HAD a safe little life, it damn near killed me. I don’t want to quit before the miracle. All around me people quit before their miracles and end up wondering, ‘what if?’. Not me, not me. I just can’t live like that anymore. I just can’t.” Tears poured down my face.

It’s true. I just can’t give up on my dreams for me, and for you all. A lit up world full of purpose-filled people is my dream, and I know that, despite how things might look right now, it’s all gonna work out better than fine for all of us. I know it in my bones.

It’s that “in the bones” knowing that spurs me on, that prods me off the couch and into the office, that gets me on the phone making the formerly tough calls (it gets easier). The knowing makes me edit this book I’m trying to finish, to stretch myself, to be uncomfortable but wildly fulfilled.

A Purpose driven life is not for the faint of heart. It takes courage and clarity and faith in oneself. It takes confidence.

Now how the hell do you get those, fercrissakes? Courage and faith and clarity, that is. I get mine every day from knowing my own personal Life Purpose. It may sound corny (and I frankly don’t care if it does, corny suits me), but knowing why I’m here and what I’m about makes all the difference for me. It’s given me access to inner resources I didn’t know I had.

Are you living “on Purpose”?

Molly, I'm so glad I found you through Self Growth. I ask all the time whether I'm living on purpose! I think when someone wakes up and realizes she got to where she is accidentally; on autopilot, that she's wound up in an "accidental life". The opposite of that is the purposeful life, where awareness is expanding into purposeful choices. So focusing on awareness of thought processes is the way to build "courage and faith and clarity."

You make a great point (focusing on awareness of thought processes), though it's not the totality of "the way to build courage, faith and clarity", by any means. Life Purpose, as I regard the concept and use the term in my own work, is the overarching context of one's life. This then would necessarily include talents, gifts, affinities, aversions, passions and attachments, as well as that ever important awareness expanding into purposeful choices. By examining the patterns that emerge when examining all those aspects of one's life, Life Purpose emerges clear as a bell. Easy peasy.

My Life Purpose Discovery system has been designed to provide a truly individual statement of Life Purpose in about 2 hours, and it's NEVER failed to produce meaningful, accurate results. It also makes an efficient, engaging and empowering assessment tool for coaches, counselors and therapists to use with their clients. It's also a GREAT selling point and extra value item for human development practitioners to use when converting questions to clients.

I really appreciate your feedback and excellent insights. I'm also thrilled to meet another person committed to "live on Purpose". Please keep coming back and sharing your thoughts.

If there's any way I can be of service.....

To this day I still don't have the confidence to sing in front of people. Though I've dreamed of being a singer my entire life, I doubt myself. Watching you sing and being on stage definitely inspires me. Can't wait for your book! Love you Molly. XOXO

:::waves cheerily to Leann:::: Thank you so much for your affection, but especially Thank You for your courageous candor. Sweet girl, there's a quotation that I thought of when I read your comment. It was written by Martha Graham, and when I read it for the first time, I felt a sense of permission and greater ease in expressing myself, in private as well as in public. I hope it can likewise inspire you to finally sing in public. Here it is:
“There is a vitality, a life force, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique, and if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium; and be lost. The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is, not how it compares with other expression. It is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open. You do not even have to believe in yourself or your work. You have to keep open and aware directly to the urges that motivate you. Keep the channel open."

    Assorted mush,
    Molly
